Epistles to the Ministers and Pastors
Establishing a minimalist pastoral approach is one of many decisions involved in making a major choice. There are many important things to be done. These *Epistles to Ministers and Pastors* serve as a wake-up call for any religious leader who is not taking the matter seriously.
Omar Sanchez
Author details
Omar Sánchez was born into a Jewish home, where his roots and traditions
marked the beginning of a life that, from a very early age, would
become a blend of different beliefs and spiritual paths. However,
his story is more than a simple chronology of religious conversions
and transitions: it is a testament to exploration, personal growth,
and the search for a divine purpose that extends beyond
religious labels.
From birth, he was part of a family that shared a rich Jewish heritage, allowing him to be surrounded by the early teachings and rituals that characterize this ancient faith. Yet, Omar’s path would take a significant turn when his parents— in their personal quest to understand their faith and find the "truth"— decided to convert to Roman Catholicism shortly after he was born. This decision led Omar to spend his early years under the influence of the Catholic Church, absorbing its values and teachings during his childhood.
But Omar’s journey did not stop there. When he was two years old, his parents embarked on a new spiritual quest, and this time, they joined Jehovah’s Witnesses. This period defined a significant part of his life, as he was raised within the Witness community, absorbing its teachings and experiences.
However, like many young people growing up in a rigid religious community, Omar began to grapple with a series of existential and spiritual questions. At the age of thirty, the weight of his doubts led him into a six-year period of atheism, during which he sought answers outside established beliefs.
However, Omar’s quest for a deeper sense of existence did not stop at atheism. During those years of doubt and reflection, something awakened within him: the need to reconnect with the divine. It was then that, after a long period of skepticism, he found his way back to Christianity.
Throughout his life, Omar never lost the bond with his Jewish roots, even though his Christian faith had become a central part of his identity. Thus, he decided to return to his Jewish origins, harmoniously integrating the traditions of both religions: Jewish heritage and Christian lived experience.
His story is not merely a series of religious conversions; it is the story of a man who has journeyed through various beliefs, exploring, learning, and growing. Omar Sánchez exemplifies the fact that spirituality is not static, but rather a personal journey involving transformation, questioning, and a constant quest for connection with the divine.
Today, as a Jew who practices Christianity, Omar has succeeded in reconciling two spiritual worlds within himself, carrying with him the lessons learned from all his religious experiences. His life demonstrates that spirituality is deeply personal—not necessarily defined by a single label, but by the authenticity with which we live out our faith.
